woes

wish i lived someplace like america so i could buy cheap designer stuffs on ebay. i decided this after finding this blog. i love the idea of buying genuinely beautiful well made things for a pittance because someone else didn't want them anymore. sigh.
in other news, i parted ways with my boyfriend. thing is, it's okay because i've been reading enough feminist novels lately to make me feel way too empowered to even want any guys around.

real men don't rape

hand tinting photographs, coffee cake, reading feminist novels, liking kurt cobain more than ever after i read this quote:

"Rape is one of the most terrible crimes on earth and it happens every few minutes. The problem with groups who deal with rape is that they try to educate women about how to defend themselves. What really needs to be done is teaching men not to rape. Go to the source and start there." Kurt Cobain

old soul

i was going to rant about the joys of tripods in this post, but instead i'll commiserate about the lack of Topshop stores where i live. Even though it's dangerous i've been checking out their website...and i've selected a few favourites (read: items to add to shopping basket and then degectedly decide that i cant afford). hmm i like these, que wistful sigh.

mr dibble

went to Paul Dibble's studio today, with school. it was quite last minute actually, but seemed layed back & quite intense at the same time.

at home, reading feminist literature and doing a photo shoot.

we love miss monroe.

yes we do, and now it's on my wall too. i have a hepburn and a monroe, all i need now is a cobain and a bowie and everything will be perfect.

things are looking up.

today involved some time spent lying on the footpath of an alleyway, next to a gutter, while my friend filmed it. (we're making a movie and i had to pretend to be dead.)

and the lights on the streets go dark

too many deadlines looming ahead. its like being a rabbit caught in the headlights of an oncoming car...
this song, by avalanche city.
(this was taken by katie, a very talented friend of mine.)

snaps

developer really does not smell at all delightful. yet i wouldn't ever say no to a trip to the dark room to develop a few photos. it's a shame i haven't posted any of the...rather many photos i've got lying around, or stuffed in my photography folder. but i will have some digital things soon, and hopefully i will be motivated enough to approach a scanner sometime in the near future too... the charm of hand developed black'n'white photo's really is unarguable, methinks.

little miss librarian.

feelin' knackered alright. had life drawing class from 4-6 after school, and then i had to work on my art history essay. still do, in fact. better get back to that... but for now, heres my new glasses, i love em!

(listening to some of Avalanche City and Doves today, and loving it)

chocolate rubble

it was my nephews first birthday party yesterday!

plunder

found some rather nice things this weekend, i must say. crocheted vest, nerd glasses (give me headaches after awhile but they're still my favourite piece of eye-wear yet), retro looking tins, a plaid* bobby-pin-storage-device. and also that ink pen (its one of four), they bleed a little but still nice to use.

*this ensures its awesomeness.

brass buttons & golden leaves

a whole day with my boy, us both wrapped in winter coats. a borrowed twin lens reflex camera, hanging around my neck. light meter frustrations. walks in the cold with hands clasped tightly.

28/05/2011

and she was, too.

it was my friends birthday last week, and these were her presents from me. earrings that are little perched birdies, and a bow tie necklace, the pair wrapped up in a disused atlas as wrapping paper.

21/05/2011

i'll be seventeen thank you

thursday was red velvet cupcakes and presents tied in ribbon, and i ceased to be sixteen. it was lunchtime with friends and a copious amount of sugary substances and way too many ridiculous innuendos. it was smiles and candles and cake.

c'était hier

tea + joy division makes for making a rainy cold day not-so-miserable.

14/05/2011

clouds, concrete

went op-shopping with the boy today, we found some great stuff. it was a nice day for taking photos too.

friendly sharks

on sunday two weeks ago, we were in wellington. my favourite city in new zealand so far i think (-:
we met up with cousins for breakfast, at the sweet mothers kitchen for good food (i had waffles). they had decorations. lots. and as you can see, the bill arrived protected by a shark. quite nice it was. then we went shopping, but that is a tale for another time.

what i wore

i haven't use my tablet for tooo long. it was nice getting it out today.
(i look ever so slightly pregnant... o.o unintentional.)

her head was a city of paper buildings

i want more than this small town. i want bright lights, big city.
i want austere buildings with too many windows, stretching up, and i want shop windows full of colour, and their slightly scary mannequins, never mind the bitchy salesladies inside.
i want out of this small town i'm in.i want tiny side streets, with little cobbled stones, i don't care if they stink of piss, the rain will wash that away. i want badly lit little cafe's with not enough room, but antique little tea services on the tables, and sugar cubes too.
i want my own front door, with a tarnished copper door knob to match, and the rooms inside, no matter how few windows they possess. it will be my own. and i want to walk the streets of the city and feel at home.
